Joann has been a freelance court reporter for over 30 years. Born and raised in Southampton, NY she moved to Burlington, VT to attend Champlain College and in her words, “forgot to leave.” Having covered diverse aspects of court reporting over her career, her experience includes utility regulation in Vermont and Connecticut, Securities Regulation, FINRA, depositions big and small, Federal Court, Bankruptcy Court, EUOs, and arbitrations.

In her free time Joann and her family love to travel, and she can often be found on the golf course chasing after a little white ball.

Kim Sears graduated from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont in 1979, and upon graduation began working with Capitol Court Reporters. In the early 1980s she and Joann Carson became business partners and have operated Capitol Court Reporters since that time. Kim has extensive experience providing timely, accurate transcripts to litigants in jurisdictions such as the Vermont Public Service Board, Federal Court in Vermont and Connecticut, civil and criminal depositions, and complex, multi-party arbitrations. She has taken many continuing education courses in medical terminology, grammar and punctuation and use of various software applications.

Kim lives in Williston, Vermont with her husband and daughter. She likes spending time with her family. In her spare time she likes to foster dogs for a local rescue organization.
